Anthony "Tony"'s Story

Life doesn't have to be what is was...it becomes what we want it to be. During my years at Montgomery High, no one knew of the violent atmosphere at home. When the opportunity came to leave, I did. I joined the Navy and spent a tour as a helicopter rescue aircewman, got out, started a photography business, and then was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler hauling drill pipe in the New Orleans area. After a year and a half of physical rehab, I joined the Coast Guard and years later, earned my retirement. I later served as a federal investigator and served in the Intel business. Somewhere along the way I realized that I was doing a lot of stuff, but not really living. I'm still not there yet, but moving in the right direction. I now have the ability to help others who dealt with violent upbringings and uncertainty about life and our own self. Then, I chose to do things differently. Today, I am the Director of the Center for Personal Leadership and Development. I help women who carried the effects of long-term abuse for decades to regain their lives. Part of what I do is help those in pain (with a medical referral) regain a healthy lifestyle after living with fibromyalgia. I’m also a bestselling author (Terrorism and the Maritime Transportation System), a success, ...Expand for more
stress and leadership coach. In addition, I'm an internationally published fine art photographer. None of this is impressive; it's just that path I've traveled toward better things. As I write this, I'm reminded of a friend I've known since second grade: Denise Brinkley. There was never a boyfriend-girlfriend thing, nor was there ever any thought of that. When life was at its worst, she would always pop into my life in some way, albeit briefly. She never knew what was happening, and didn't need to know. I've always cared, respected and admired her and somehow those brief moments would keep me focused on an endgame toward a better life. At one point about 15-years ago, we somehow reconnected. I don't even recall how it happened. I was so excited to reconnect with her, that I fear I scared her away. I wanted to let her know how important she is in my life and thank her for being there. In my excitement, I failed at that. If you have had someone like that in your life, don't waste the opportunity to tell them how important they are. If anyone ever interacts with Denise, please feel free to share this post with her. She should know how it impactful she has been. I've done a lot of things in this life but this is the one thing that's left undone. ~ Tony Davis
