Tony's Story

(April 18, 2010) It¿s early Sunday morning and as I lay in bed trying to decide whether to get up or not it occurred to me that I should write an update on this page since my last installment had been several years ago -- particularly since I RSVP'd to attend the upcoming High School Reunion in July on this site yesterday. I originally registered on this site nearly 10 years ago to hopefully re-connect with old friends that I had lost touch with. In some ways I¿ve been successful and in other ways unfortunately unsuccessful. Some have passed on (Wayne Cherry, Walter Burks) that I¿m sure I will see again in the afterlife and others I have connected with via emails, text and phone calls that makes my heart sing! Gosh, it¿s been 3 years since I last changed this thing! Like most, some things have changed while others stayed the same. I now have 4 grandchildren thanks to Chris (Derrick, Devin & Kennedy) and Stephen (Isabella). Chris is still in Louisville and Stephen is now living back in Central Kentucky. My youngest Son, Patrick, is living in Louisville trying to finish up his college education at U of L. And, oh yeah, he¿s finally ¿out of my pocket,¿ if you know what I mean (LOL)! Mom is doing great and getting great care (living with Alzheimer) in a nursing home in Dallas near my eldest sister Evon and I keep in regular contact with her and occasionally talk to my sister Jackie who lives in Louisiana. And, what is really great, I¿ve talked with my younger brother, Jimmy, a few times over the years, too. But, the biggest change in my life is that I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in December ¿08 and had surgery to remove my Prostate in February ¿09. Although I am doing fine now and I continue to be Cancer free since the surgery, needless to say the experience changed my life. There was a Tony before Cancer that I call ¿BC¿ and there is a Tony after Cancer. All I can say about this has been said in a song recorded by Tim McGraw titled ¿Live Like You Were Dying.¿ In closing, life is good. Don¿t sweat the small stuff; you¿re not in control anyway. Live, Love and have No Regrets! Live like you were dying. . . (April 14, 2007) It’s early Saturday morning and I’m sitting here surfing the net and watching and listening to the DVD “Standing in the Shadow of Motown.” My wife has just asked me if I realized that recently I play this same DVD every Saturday. It hadn’t really crossed my mind. But if truth be told, the reason I do this is frankly because it reminds me of my youth. I miss those days growing up in NewBurg. Those were the days! Hey, maybe I ought to start a “blog” or something about growing up and other people would read it and submit their own thoughts? Nah, nobody would be interested in that. . .just a thought. A couple of days ago I decided to post some new pictures on this site of me and my family to give all the Classmates visitors that are interested a little glimpse of how life has changed me since the last century (lol)! And, I decided to break down and pay for the “...Expand for more
7 day trail” membership to see if it would be worthwhile to have full access. (Oh, by the way, about this time I’ve changed DVDs to the newly released “The Temptations Definitive Performances 1965 – 1972.” Another thing that reminds me of the “good old days.") I just realized that I sound like some old fart that’s living in the past. Well, after giving it some thought, that’s not a bad thing. As long as I live in the present there’s nothing wrong with reminiscing about the past, right? Ok, let me give you an update since my last entry. My son Chris and his wife Jennifere are the proud new parents of an absolutely lovely baby girl – Kennedy. That makes me a Grandfather twofold. Thanks Chris! My second son, Stephen, still lives in Jacksonville, FL and seems to be adjusting to adulthood just fine. My 3rd son Patrick is back living at home with Amy and me trying to get his act together. Amy and I have told him that he has a few more months left before he’ll have to leave the nest permanently (August 1st). We’re trying to practice that “tough love” thing. I’ll keep you posted on our success with this . . . maybe (lol). Lastly, my big sister Evon will be coming home for this year’s Derby (She lives in Dallas). In addition to catching up with old friends she plans on coming to Lexington to visit with us. Everyone is really looking forward to her visit. We all plan on visiting the Muhammad Ali Center together while she’s home. Although I talk to her by phone several times a week and in the last few years we've celebrated Thanksgiving with her and Mom (Mom is living in an assisted living facility in Dallas near Evon. She’s been suffering with Alzheimer’s for several years now) in Dallas, it’s especially good to see her back in the ‘Ville! That’s all from me this morning! Until we talk again, Peace. (Sept. 25, 2006) Gosh, I can't believe it's been 3 years since I posted my original message. It's just a few days before my 53rd birthday as I'm writing this . Let's see, what has changed in the last 3 years? Still married but we're what they call "empthy nesters" now (no kids at home). My oldest son (Chris) and his wife are expecting their second child. My son Stephen is now living in Jacksonville, FL and seems to be all grown up now (i.e., no longer supported financially by Mom and Dad). And my youngest son Patrick has transferred to UK for his final year in college (definitely final as it pertains to getting more money from me for school). Because there are no kids at home anymore my wife, Amy, has decided to bring in 2 new pets -- a female dog (Trudy) and a male cat (Oliver)! Like I needed something else to take care of, right? Anyway, I still feel very blessed and I look forward to hearing from you guys and gals. Drop me a line sometime. All the best. Peace. The following is my original message from a few years back: Although I am not necessarily a religious man, I can say I have been truly blessed in many ways. Now that I have reached my 50th year (Sept 2003) my priorities in life ar
