Tony's Story

Life 4/18/2005 After graduating from high school I attended Brigham Young University for one year. Between my freshman and sophomore year I served as a missionary for my church for two years in Japan. I graduated in 1976 from BYU with my bachelors in history. I've spend all my working career in the financial services industry only punctuated by a brief return to graduate school between 1980-83. I am no longer working at this time as a result of degenerative muscle disease. My wife and I live in Highland, Utah and have a soon to be six-year old daughter. You can reach me at shsrcat at msn dot com. College I attended Brigham Young University from 1970 through 1976 interrupted between 1971 and 1973 when I served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Japan. I graduated in 1976 with a bachelors degree in History. Later in 1980 I returned to BYU for graduate work in Organization Behavior. Although I attended BYU on an Air Force ROTC scholarship I did not enter the Air Force. In 1975 the South Vietnamese government collapsed and the military underwent downsizing. Although I was encouraged to stay in the Air Force program, I did not see a future in a downsized Air Force. I resigned from the program in 1975. I look back on my college days with great fondness. njoyable as college was. I wasn't working and had more time to devote to social activities. I joined a professional fraternity and had many leadership opportunities in off campus activities. Workplace My first "real job" was with Security Pacific National Bank. I worked in several branches, starting in operations and ending up on the platform. Later, I started my long tenure in the mortgage banking business beginning as a loan agent for mortgage broker and ending as a 1st VP in Secondary Markets for Countrywide Home Loans. I am now retired from working for health reasons. In late 2002 I was diagnosed with neuromuscular disorder called "Adult Onset Rod Disease", also known as "Nemaline Myopathy". My chest muscles are too weak to properly ventilate my lungs. Consequently, my body retains CO2 and I need supplemental O2 when sleeping or when physically active. Military I attended Brigham Young University on a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship. During my three years in the program I was a member of the color guard, the XO of the color guard and a squadron commander. I was also a member of the Arnold Air Society where I served as a Special Ops Officer and Pledge Master. I was allowed to resign from the program at the end of my junior year as the military underwent downsizing following the end of the Viet Nam war.
