Antonio (Tony)'s Story
Life
I had fun in college, a little too much. Didn't settle down until my last year and didn't sell very well in interviews in my chosen field( Recreation and Youth Services). After a few years I landed a good job with General Motors but not before I met the love of my life and settled down to raise a family. My wife, Patty, and I have been married almost 27 years. They have been great years. I have been with GM almost 26 years. We have two great children, Lauren and Andy. I was very active in band boosters with both kids, and in Boy Scouts and FIRST Robotics with Andy. Lauren is graduating from MSU next month and is looking for a teahcing job in Elementary vocal music. Andy is finishing his second yr. at U of M. He started in Engineering but is looking into other things at this point. He has a full tuition scholarship to U of M. We are very proud of both of our kids. We are still adjusting to being here with just the two of us, but they manage to come home about the time we adjust. It is a good time though, for us.
College
I started at Albion college in Education, transferred to Michigan State and graduated in 1974 with a BS in Recreation & Youth Services/Munincipal Recreation. 9 yrs into my carreer at GM I returned to Central Mich to get my Masters in Business Administration. uated with honors. This helped me further my career at GM.
Workplace
After graduating from MSU I was unable to find a job in my chosen field so I landed a decent job at LTV Aerospace in Sterling Heights, MI. I moved on to General Motors Truck and Bus in Pontiac in 1978. Went back to school for an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Macomb Community College and then finally a Masters from Central Michigan in Business. About the time I finished this degree I began working in Human Resources in Education and Training. I added the Communications Coordinator to this a yr or two later. I then branched out to the floor of the plant as a Supervisor of Material Handling folks. This was a challenging several years. I then went to the Material Production Control Office at Pontiac Assembly and continued to develop my skills in the GM Material world. I went to GM Metal Fabrication HQ as an associate administrator - ie consulting with and advising plants on Material issues. I am now involved at GM North America Manufacturing HQ in Pontiac in the Manufacturing Supply Operations group. Our department is titled Wireless Technology and I support a system that uses wireless computers on fork trucks that delivers work instructions to drivers on their trucks. Its an interesting job and keeps me busy. The system enables us to be much more productive and more efficient with fork truck drivers.
