Arlene's Story

My husband John and I live in a new home we just built on 4 acres west of New Market. We were residing in Prior Lake for 40 years but decided to venture into country living. We were instrumental in designing our new custom built house and our talented contractor was one of my husband's students - in fact so were most of the sub-contractors. John was Principal at the secondary school in Prior Lake retoromg in 1985. I worked as an Executive Secretary at the Administration Building in Burnsville retireing in 1995, We raise miniature smooth dachshunds which we show at locations around the mid-west as a hobby and presently have seven of them, six of which are AKC champions. My other hobby is sewing and designing color coded norwegion sweaters. My husband collects stamps, enjoys jigsaw puzzles and extensive yard work. We have traveled to many world locations including, Africa two times, Israel, Turkey, Norway three times, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, China, France, Italy, Thailand, Nepal, Burma, all South America countries, Costa Rica, Australia, Alaska and have been on seven cruises. We have a townhouse timeshare on Cable Beach on Providence Island in the Bahamas where we spend the month of January. We have five children and thirteen grandchildren. They all live near us except for Karen our oldest, who resides in Woodland Hills, CA. ...Expand for more
We visit her every Thanksgiving and miscellaneous other times such as graduations, etc. Our second daughter, Paula has been teaching biology at Scott Highlands in the Rosemount-Apple Valley district for 26 years. David our oldest son works at Home Depot in Chaska and lives in our home in Prior Lake. Jim is between jobs and Joel lives a couple houses from us and is a computer analyst for Cigna. All of the children attended various schools of higher learning in Minnesota and four of them graduated. Our oldest grandchild, Ari is in the navy, compliments of the St. Thomas/U of M ROTC program. After gradiation from St. Thomas she served as an ensign on a destroyer based at the US harbor in Japan after which she attended neuclear propulsion school in North Carolina. Our oldest grandson is head tennis coach at Hamlin University where he graduated from college. The other grandchildren are on their way to fame and fortune. They are high achievers in school, enjoy sports and predict wonderful futures for them. We enjoy our high school reunions and are so glad so many of my classmates can join us for the fun and we like to keep in touch. Our best entertainment seems to be going to stage presentations and attending Viking football games where we have season tickets on the 50 yard line. Some year they will have a team we can cheer about.
