Armando (Andy)'s Story

Life Shortly after graduation I joined the U.S. Marine Corps; went to boot camp in San Diego, served in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands for a year and a year and a half in Hawaii. Spent a total of 3 years in the Marines. Returned home and eventually went to and graduated from the Univ. of Texas at Austin with a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology. Joined the Department of State, Foreign Service and served 2 years at the U.S. Embassy in Asuncion, Paraguay, South America and almost 3 years at the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul, Turkey. Returned home and spent a couple of years as Executive Director of the Western region for a firm out of Washington, D.C. with offices here in San Antonio. Joined the Department of Commerce in D.C. for a couple of years, transferred to the Federal Energy Administration as the Director for the Office of Equal Opportunities; was then appointed as the Peace Corps Country Director for Nicaragua during their revolutionary...Expand for more
period. After my return to the U.S. during a very trying period I was appointed as a District Manager with the Social Security Administration in Miami, Fla. I held several senior level executive positons with the Social Security Administration, both in their headquarters in Baltimore, Md., and in their field offices. I was appointed as the Ambassador to the Americas by the Social Security Administration while in headquarters. I was appointed as the Deputy Regional Commissioner for the Chicago region. While in the Baltimore area I was also appointed as a consultant to the World Bank in Washington, D.C. and provided consultant and technical and training services to Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and almost every country in South and Central America. I recently retired as the Deputy Regional Commissioner for the Social Security Administration's Southwest Region with offices in Dallas. I currently reside in Fair Oaks Ranch, Tx. with my wife.
