Arnold's Story
Bio ¿ Mr. Evans performed undergraduate work in Psychology at the University of South Carolina; published Undergraduate Guide for Psychology Majors; major research interest in Recognition Recall and Piaget¿s Theory on Growth and Development. After working as an addictions counselor for several years Mr. Evans is owner and founder of The Alternative; a private reentry program to provide housing, counseling, and job assistance for recovering people. The Alternative opened its doors in 1990 and has since served thousands of clients returning from jail, prisons, and institutions, i.e., treatment centers, etc. In 2003 The Alternative opened its first outpatient treatment facility with a primary focus on court ordered and Criminal Justice clients. ecovering community by providing access to housing, addictions counseling, legal services, health care, child care, emergency shelters, food, clothing, furniture, services for families/women with children, support groups, job assistance and job training. An onsite computer lab is available for online job search and GED study. Most recently, Mr. Evans has combined his interest in treatment with his knowledge of the Criminal Justice client focusing his attention on new Department of Justice Reentry Programs. He is a member of the SVORI training team and a member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. As CEO of South Carolina Choices, Inc. he has developed partnerships with the Midlands Area Consortium for the Homeless (MACH), South Carolina Hepatitis C Coalition, South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council, South Carolina Centers for Equal Justice, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), DHEC, and the Lexington County Sheriff¿s Department. He is a member of the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors and the South Carolina Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.
