Arthur " Art " Powell
Gang Prevention/Intervention Specialist and founder of Ex.G.R.E.S.S. Consultants can illustrate first-hand knowledge of youth gang violence. He became exposed to the criminal elements of the streets at the early age of thirteen. By the age of fifteen, he was involved with neighborhood cliques, which later became recognized as gangs. At the age of nineteen, he met a drug dealer who then took him in and gave him the power as the gangs leading hit man to terrify anyone who was against their family (gang), which was called ¿I Refuse Posse¿. lly committed crimes that sent him to prison for 11 years and 6 months. Considering his affiliation with gangs in the past and having first-hand experience serving a lengthy prison term, we feel he can offer a large magnitude of insight into the world of youth violence and street life and provide solutions to prevent criminal and gang activity.
Arthur, has 2 children, a 17 year old son and 15 month old daughter by his wife, Rollie Austin-Powell
With Arthur rewriting his book and planning other programs for our youth, he hopes that parents and educators will be receptive to his plans to aid our children. Arthur hopes his life¿s testimony will inspire and motivate our children to make the right decisions and choices by staying away from a life of crime in street gangs.
