Arthur's Story
Time flies since 1965, Right after graduation, I hired on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, New York Division at Hoboken, NJ as a towerman advancing to train dispatcher and chief train dispatcher. In 1976 we were taken over by Conrail and I was promoted to Supervisor of Train Operations in Penn Station New York, then Senior Trainmaster - Re-electrification Project of the Morris and Essex Line, Then I went to New Jersey Transit in 1983 as Superintendent-Rules and Operations where I retired in 2001. I was immediately hired by the Federal Railroad Administration as Operating Practices Inspector for the Long Island Rail Road, then CSX, Norfolk Southern and Conrail...Expand for more
, then Amtrak, New Jersey Transit and PATH Safety Inspector. From 1992 through 2001 I was Secretary-Treasurer of the New Jersey Railroad Association. I was in Jersey City on September 11, 2001 and watched as both planes attacked the World Trade Center from the Hudson River waterfront. I was assigned to the Department of Homeland Security to work with the DHS on railroad security in the Port of New York. I retired in 2008 and have written seventeen railroad books on the LIRR, Conrail, Erie Lackawanna, Delaware and Hudson and New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroads. I live in Passaic, NJ with my wife and son. Enjoying retirement after an exciting life.
