Arthur's Story
I have a wide and varied range of experiences in my life. From Raising Cattle in California, running and building Restaurants, Entertaining professionally for 14 years and playing the upright bass, and all this before I was 19. Came up to a path in my life that had a fork in it and walked the wrong side of the road for a few years but had an epiphany that redirected me on a path of unselfishness and support of the community I was not only a part of, but became a part of throughout my growth as an adult.
I studied and graduated with honors as a Cosmetologist working for the top names in the hair business and opened several salons in Hawaii. I then studied and specialized in Epidemiology with a focus on STD's and HIV Prevention, treatment and care and got involved in counseling, testing and doing outreach in the STD/HIV Field which has since become my life's passion. I lived on the Island of O`ahu for many, many years and one of my ocupations was when I worked for the largest ASO in the Pacific rim and then moved into the Department of Health STD/HIV Branch near Diamond Head Crater, as a clinician and counselor, working not only in a clinical environment but alos doing voluntary counseling and testing in the Correctional Facilities in Hawaii for over four years and documented data that became noted on a National Level, which brought me to Washington DC in summer of 2001. IMplemented a National Prevention program and then came 9/11! Having been trained in Disaster Relief at the American Red Cross, I volunteered to serve here in the Metro DC Area on September 11, 2001. I was immediately deployed to the Pentagon and worked with the teams of support netwporks and volunteers there until the final body was accounted for from the tragedy. Having lost the funding for my prevention program ...Expand for more
and team, I went into Banking, Mortgage Banking to be specific and have done so ever since, with a specialty in Education and first time home buyers. I began by learning and working with a Mortgage broker and I compare my learning curve there to my learning various languages, I learn all the "Bad Things" first. I worked at a small brokerage for several months until I was recruited by the Largest Lender in the Nation, and went there to be taught the correct way to be a mortgage banker with ceilings and limits in what can be charged a customer.
I serve on several Boards of Directors for the Hillwood Museum, and Community Center for the LGBT Community Center in DC, and am the founder and current President of a Hispanic Real Estate Professionals Association-NAHREP Metro DC, here in Washington DC.
Live has taken me in sevreal different directions since HIGH SCHOOL, and some have not been as savory or reputable as one would have liked. I made and lost friends on the Journey and have only a few that I sincerely regret.....perhaps one day I can make amends with these certain individuals, but for the remainder of my adult life, I have dedicated it to serving the community at large, helping the needy, the homeless, the underserved and those whom have been compromised by society and the treachory that some have towards one another. I have become quite involved in Politics and legislation in making and influencing changes on Capital Hill and as far as to the Whitehouse. For the few that I have wronged while I was quite a bit younger, I hope and pray to make amends, and for all the thousands I have served since, I know the Lord is watching and when I pass, I will have a place to lay my head.....and for my future, I am working for the little chocolate mint on my pillow on my bed in Heaven.
