Arthur's Story
After Fox Lane, I attended Syracuse University (BA 1966) and American University for business (stopped 3 classes from graduation for a rest. I guess I fell asleep as I never finished my MBA). Thank god for an excellent Fox Lane education. I learned all of the other important stuff at SU - drinking, pool, poker, skiing, bridge, and, most of all, how to get along with people.
Being draft deferred (sole surviving son), I moved to NYC and easily got a job at General Cable. That lasted three days - I quit. I could not imagine working if those whining, complaining fellow workers were what I had to expect for 40 years. I went home to Mt. Kisco for a weekend and had my "plastics" moment. One of my father's friends was over (I think it was Barry Feathers' dad.) He said to me "you were good at math and science. Why not try my field - data processing". I went back to NYC, got a job at CIT, and he was right. IT was just right for me. At that time not having a pocket protector and being able to write a complete sentence in English enabled me to shine. My employers included CIT Finance, Chesebrough-Pond's, Mars Inc., Weyerhaeuser in Boise ID, and Becton Dickinson. I did about every job in IT from technic...Expand for more
al coding to CIO.
In 1972 some buddies and I rented a house in Ocean Ridge, Fire Island. One Saturday afternoon, I was playing bridge and looked up to see the absolutely cutest thing on two feet come up the stairs - instant love. One week later Betsy moved in with me. We married the next year and still are. We have had two children, David and Sarah, and five grand kids.[
We spent five years looking for a retirement place in the west starting in Oregon, to San Diego to Santa Fe and all places in between.. After seeing John McCain interviewed in Sedona, AZ, we put it on our list. Love at first sight. We bought a house, negotiated an exit from BD, and moved here in 2000. Great golf, hiking, stables for my wife's horse, cultural activities, and great friends. The Village of Oak Creek, just south of Sedona proper, reminds me of Mt. Kisco in the 40s and 50s. Small (6000 people), friendly, safe (I do not know where the keys to the house are) and easy to get around. We are also one of 15 dark skies compliant communities in the world. At 4100 feet, the milky way seems so close, it could be touched.
We have a great house with panoramic views of the red rocks and would love to see some old class mates.
