Arthur H.'s Story
After graduation I worked in a resturant in East Tawas, Michigan, was Fired for lack of work in September moved back home tried to find a job, no one was hiring so I enlisted in the Navy. Received two notices for jobs, one was the post office, too late. Went to boot camp as Great Lakes, Illimois, graduated in Dec 1958, went to Naval Service School Command, Radioman Class "A", Bainbridge, Maryland. Spent 6 months traing. Shipped to Naples Italy for duty station. Returned US Oct 1962. hired in at Buick. Renlisted Jan 1963. Sent to the Uss Mauna Loa, AE-8 in Earle, New Jersey. Ship deployed to the Med for 8 months, barely got there and was transferred to the staff of Commander Service Forces Sixth Fleet for duty. Staff was rotated between three tankers, Uss Mississinewa, AO-144, Uss Neosho, AO-143, and Uss Truckee, AO-147. er until Aug 1966. Was transferred to Naval Communications Station Puged Sound, Naval Message Center Sandpoint, Seattle, Washington.
Was discharged from Navy Jan 1969 returned to Flint. Hired in as Field Office Manager for sewer construction company, BOAM out of Livonia doing construction in Genesee county. Was laid off as the were moving to Washington, DC to do storm sewer work ar Dullus Airport, they didn't pay me enough to go with them, and it also was too expensive to live there. That was March 1972 drew unemployment until ran out got job pumping gas at SUNOCO Station across from BHS. Worked there until laid off. Got hired in at Grand Blanc Fisher Body, old Tank Plant. worked there until health problems forced me to take an early retirement, Doc wouldn't let me obtain other work so ended up on disibaility social securiety, move back to my home area of Alabaster Township, just south of Tawas City by about seven miles. That's where I am today.
