Arthur's Story
A short bio of Arthur âÃÂÃÂPoetryâÃÂàPayne III
The musical journey of Arthur E. Payne III aka âÃÂÃÂPoetryâÃÂàbegan in 1962 at the age of seven with the writing of a childrenâÃÂÃÂs song, âÃÂÃÂItâÃÂÃÂs A Nice DayâÃÂÃÂ. Being very shy and keeping his writing skills a secret, it wasnâÃÂÃÂt until 1967 at age of 12 and with the urging of childhood best friend Daniel B Harris that his songwriting skills begin coming to the forefront. Singing background in his first ever 5 man singing and cover song R&B group, âÃÂÃÂThe ExceptionsâÃÂàled by the tenor of Daniel Harris, his first song âÃÂÃÂItâÃÂÃÂs A Nice DayâÃÂàwas to become this groupâÃÂÃÂs first original performance song, being transformed from a childrenâÃÂÃÂs tune to a teenager love song by Arthur and co-member David E Skannal. David would also become the first person to ever co-write with Arthur as they would write many more songs together.
After the break-up of âÃÂÃÂThe ExceptionsâÃÂÃÂand having been bitten by the performing âÃÂÃÂbugâÃÂÃÂ, Arthur went on to form his first R&B group, âÃÂÃÂPoetry In MotionâÃÂÃÂ, naming the group after his musical nickname âÃÂÃÂPoetryâÃÂÃÂ, chosen by him because it was usually said that he wrote nice âÃÂÃÂpoetryâÃÂÃÂ. This group consisted of 4 male singer...Expand for more
s and 1 female singer which led to the writing of songs that could be sung by a female vocalist. This group would only perform original songs written or co-written by Arthur and was modeled after childhood idol, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles although every member sang lead on various songs.
âÃÂÃÂPoetry In MotionâÃÂàwould be disbanded and for a brief while Arthur was a solo performer, shopping his songs and himself as a singer/songwriter until being advised by the Detroit management team of Lloyd & Lloyd, that a recording contract was more accessible if he had a band or group. Taking their advice, the 3 man R&B band âÃÂÃÂ3PMâÃÂàwas born.
This group would go on to record a trial 45 RPM single record for MCA Records. Not being signed, the group broke up and Arthur once again returned to shopping his songs to other artists and eventually to managing other performers, helping several to become professional recording musicians and singers with major labels.
Disillusioned with the current state of R&B music and having an awakening the early part of âÃÂÃÂ08, Arthur began to write music only for Christ and with the encouragement of his longtime music attorney, Kendall Minter, the indie Christian label, DreaminâÃÂàOut Loud Entertainment, a division of DreaminâÃÂàOut Loud, LLC was born late âÃÂÃÂ08.
