Wow! I must have had unrealistically high expectations then, because I'm sure I could never survive that schedule now. I was a full time student (barely) for the first 4 years, while also working full time, going through the ROTC program (PT at 5:30 am 3 x per wk. plus classes and uniform on Fridays), Simultaneous Membership Program in Tenn. Army Nation Guard (Forward Observer in Field artillery unit which is now a rocket unit), played drums in the band, was an active member of a fraternity, worked out approx. 2 hours per day and competed in bodybuilding contests (I won the Teenage S.E. United Stated States contest at 19), I played in a country/rock band on Friday & Saturday nights, was also in the Scabbord & Blade Military Honor society and the Rangers, and graduated from Airborne School. I completed internships at the local PBS station and at News 12. Somehow, I still managed to date, fall in love (repeatedly), and survive numerous broken hearts. Eventually, I realized that if I was ever going to graduate, I was going to have to make some changes, so I eliminated band, fraternity, finished ROTC, and reduced my school load to part time status, while continuing the other stuff, and was finally able to finish. That line from "Animal House", "Seven years of college, down the drain.", was starting to lose it's luster going into 1987 I'll tell you.
Every fall, the crispness of the air, the beauty of the changing leaves, takes me back to those campus days, where there were beautiful girls at every turn, Football games on Saturday evening, partys every weekend - a world of possibilities ahead and too many choices for everything, that I'd never had before.
I don't feel like I fit into any reunion type mold because I didn't graduate with my class. And because I chose a field in which, if you remain in your hometown, it's extremely difficult to achieve any financial comfort zone, I would be out of place with my peers.
