Audrey's Story
Life
As many of you may or may not know, 2007 started out badly for my children and I. My children's Dad was killed in the Al-Anbar Province in Fallujah, Iraq on Jan. 5, 2007 by an IED (i.e. roadside bomb).Needless to say it has been one of the darkest days/times in our lives. Mike and I, despite having been separated for a year and a half prior to his departure, we remained close friends with one another and had been peripherally talking of reuniting, but kept this ONLY between ourselves. I suppose it was never meant to be. So hard to watch your children experience such pain, too. We've managed to get through day by day so far, only by the grace of God and the help, support and prayers of a GREAT community family and friends. However, we are just now VERY slowly beginning to heal. We still have a lot left in the year to "go through", but it's something we have to do. We are doing some better and today is MCHS's graduation and our daughter Erica is graduating. It will be, of course, very bittersweet, as her Dad would've been here for it. We'll get through though as usual. For those of you who've been praying, keep it up and I appreciate it. Also, Newsweek did an article on it that featured many of Mike's letters. It was the April 2 issue, called Voices of the Fallen. They also have video of two of my kids and I on their website reading some of his letters. They did a nice job, but I must warn you that it's difficult to watch. So, that's an update on my family. We continue on day by day, with Mike still on our minds and in our hearts. It will be difficult, but we will get through. Take care and God bless everyone, and to anyone who's still serving over there, here's an extra "be careful" from my family.
We are now approaching our second anniversary of Mike's death and the second year is in some ways a little more difficult than the first. Especially the kid's birthdays. I suppose it just reinforces the fact that he's REALLY NOT coming back, and the fact that I'M here watching them grow a...Expand for more
nd mature and he's not able to, is VERY difficult AND unfair. BUT, it's the hand we've been dealt and we must go on w/our lives as Mike would've wanted us to and therefore we do that for him NEVER forgetting about him and ALWAYS missing him. Again, thank you to everyone for your prayers and support, they help immensely, more than you could probably ever know. Have a GREAT NEW YEAR!
Okay, here goes. After high school, I went to college got a degree in Psychology. Between my second and third year of college, I got married, (at 20) then immediately after graduation moved to Dayton, OH. Had my first child, Erica, now 17. Worked at Adult Parole Authority for awhile and started some graduate work at U of Dayton. Had my second child, Ryan-14. After 5 yrs. in Dayton, moved to Cincinnatti then had two more children Zach-12 and Dale-10. Lived there for three years, then moved back home in '96. Began substitute teaching, then worked for Family Resource for awhile. Currently, I am divorced, back to subbing, and currently just finished building a house (been here a year Sept. 2 now) and just getting on with and enjoying my life.
School
After high school I attended UK and earned my BA in psychology. By the time I finished I was married, and as soon as I graduated I moved to Dayton and was expecting my first child. I began graduate studies between my first and second child, but then it got to be a little much, so it's kinda been on the back burner for awhile. But that's okay. They're definitely worth it. Maybe I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up. :)
College
Also went on to UK and graduated in June of 1988. Then, did a little graduate work at University of Dayton.
Workplace
Did waitressing, (loved it); Adult Parole Authority; substitute teaching; Family Resource (for Meade Co.); now back to subbing again. STILL can't decide what I really want to be when I grow up. :) I guess "Mom" has been my primary work for the last 20 years. It's busy but fun. Never a dull moment in my house.
