Audrey's Story

Talk about a late bloomer. I finally figured life out in my mid-50's. After doing what many young women did back then, college, marriage, two kids, teaching, blah, blah, blah, I stopped long enough to ask myself,"Is that It?" I divorced in 1996, got a paralegal degree, left Louisiana in the rear-view mirror and headed to Florida to re-invent myself. There were two people who helped me jump-start my new life; a psychic in Baton Rouge and TONY SYLVESTER! Yes, old buddies, the most wicked tease that ever walked the halls of Neshaminy. Turned out to be a great listener, too. Sharing a drink or three at our 35th, and boo-hoo-ing to each other, Tony said to me,"You deserve to be loved." Translation: Stop settling: Go find happiness. I owe you, Tony. I'll cut to the chase. After dating, travelling and wringing life dry for a few years, I found a retiring firefighter/paramedic, so sweet and cute you want to eat his face! We married, and after Dan recovered from quintuple bypass and seven stents implanted in his heart, we hit the road in a motorhome. We took up gold prospecting, toured wineri...Expand for more
es, rappelled down cliffs, toured wineries, explored ancient Anasazi ruins, hiked through national parks, and did I mention that we toured wineries? Tried California, didn't love it - too precious and self-conscious for me. Found Mexico and fell in love with San Felipe. So, now we live on the Sea of Cortez, on a golf course set against the St. Peter the Martyr mountain range. I watch the sunrise each morning, have a lovely man to spend each day with and gobs of great friends to laugh, eat and drink with every night. I write a monthly column in Mexico Living Magazine while Dan has a Cuban cigar store (complete with indian) here in town. Life, my friends, is GOOD!t 2015: Update. Still in Mexico, but I'm coming home! Dan and I have leased a house in New Hope, PA for July, August and September. Time for a change, and I've missed my family and friends, more every day. Dan just had stents 9 and 10 put into his heart but all in all he's doing well. I'm still playing golf and doing my yoga three times a week. I am blessed with good friends and much laughter. Hope to reconnect this summer!
