Audrey's Story
Life
I married my high school sweetheart when I was 18. We both worked for the telephone company. On our 7th wedding anniversary, our first child was born, Cheryl. Almost 3 years later we had a boy, Jimmy. Of course, they are both grown now, and my daughter has 2 sons, Nathan and Trever. My son, Jimmy has married a Chinese women and they now live in Sacramento about 2 miles away. They have 1 son, Edward.
I have since divorced my high school sweetheart, after 21 years of marriage. I am happily married a second time (22 years now) and have moved to Sacramento, from the Half Moon Bay area. My husband has 4 grand children, so we have 7 all together. We enjoy the weather much more here than on the foggy coast. We are retired and enjoy everyday life. We travel a lot, both within the United States and out to foreign countries. Life is good.
That last 2 years, we have each gotten a motorcycle. I had never ridden. Can you imagine learning at the age of 61?
I enjoy doing crafts. Each year I sell my knitted hats, baby bibs, etc. at craft shows. Getting a little tired of it now (the shows that is).
I would love to be in touch with a few of the girlfriends that I had in high school.
School
My favorite classes in school were typing, shorthand and office practice. I always enjoyed math, also. Classes that were hard for me...Expand for more
were history, government and biology. Now I am really interested in all those subjects. Living life has given me a very good education and brought me up to date with the above subjects. I wonder about some of the teachers. I loved P.E. class, until Ms. Carr wanted an essay on volleyball. To me that was for English classes. I wish that Hogan had women sports teams. I ended up on women and co-ed softball teams at the age of 35. I just quite playing 2 years ago, after getting hit in the leg by a ball twice. Left some nasty bruise that is still there.
Workplace
I worked 21 years with Pacific Bell. Starting at the bottom as a clerk and working myself up to Management. I had various jobs from Secretary, to budgets, personal and payroll. I became a supervisor over all of those functions. After being put ona surplus list for 3 years in a row, I decided to take the option of retiring without an age penalty. I retired at the age of 40 with a monthly pension and full benefits.
I began working for another organization. This was a non-profit organization for foster children. I worked as the budget coordinator and personal and payroll manager. I have since retired from them and have been enjoying life as a retiree.
I actually have no desire to go back to work. I keep busy around home and going places with my husband.
