August's Story

Life I'm happily married to a successful man and we have one beautiful child. I waited a long long time to have children after a life of traveling, working and having fun. I wanted to make sure that I was ready for a family. I live on the coast of North Carolina and I spend my summers & autumns volunteering with the Topsail Island Sea Turtle Project. There is nothing quite like holding a hatchling in the palm of your hand and setting it free into the ocean. I graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Prior to moving to NC, I lived in Louisville, Kentucky for 5 years while commuting to attend Indiana University. At that time I worked as an environmental health biologist specializing in West Nile Virus research and testing. As for now, I plan to be a stay-at-home mom. m currently a graduate student pursuing a masters in Marine Bio while picking up my teaching credential for science instruction in grades K-12 (something to fall back on in case I want to teach when Jamie is old enough to attend school). College I love everything about college!!!!!!!!!! Studying the flora and fauna of Tahiti and Hawaii are the highlights of my college career at Indiana University. Currently, I am researching the effects of mid-frequency sonar on echolocating cetaceans. I am a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda academic honors society and have received the UNC Chancellor's Achievement Award for Academic Excellence. Additionally, I am assisting in a thermoregulation study involving the local Tursiops truncatus population. I was a volunteer with the East Coast marine mammal rescue unit until mid 2007. Having a son makes it difficult to jaunt around on a moments notice.
