Avis's Story
To continue my story, I am working at KM Hospital and up until two weeks ago was working in managment as assistant director over Endoscopy, Operating Room and Pain Managment. I transferred to North Station and am their Admission/Discharge nurse. Still working M-F. Still going to school, will graduate from WSSU in May 2013 with my BSN. Am working on my application to GWU for my MSN. Goal is to teach in my old(er) age. Grands are now, 7, 5, 4, and 1. Keith and I bought a "hard shell" small camper and have started camping again. Very enjoyable. I enjoy reading biographies and autobigoraphies. I enjoy working in the community and getting the face of the hospital out to the people. I love fall and its cooler temperatures and its beauty. Our daughter Kathryn and her husband both teach at Brevard High School. Our son Tommy and his wife live in Jacksonville, Florida. Tommy is deployed to the Arabic Sea and I will glad to have him home next April. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to go to France (again) with my daughter and her high school French class. October 20, 2014: I just celebrated my 60th birthday! Yes, that's right, 60. Where did the time go?
I am still a student and will graduate with my MSN next August, from Gardner-Webb. I will be so glad to be finished with the formal education. I just accepted a position at Isothermal Community College in Spindale, NC. And yes, I resigned from my beloved Kings Mountain Hospital after 37 years of service. I will have two groups of clinical students starting in November and are going to KM Hospital. Then next semester I will team teach in the classroom.
June 6, 2016: I am still working full-time teaching at Isothermal Community College in the Foothills Nursing Consortium. In the summer, I teach on the CCC campus and the McDowell Tech CC campus. I have 4 grand-children: ages 11, 9, 8, and 5 at the moment. Time flies. Keith is self-employed now working with screen printing, re-meshing screens and selling products. We are also re-modeling our house... I graduated with my MSN last August from GWU. I feel very blessed.
