Barbara's Story

I wrote editorials and edited for The Colt high school newspaper my senior year and attended the usual roundup of clubs. However, my most vivid memory is the terror of Miss Amos' first-period junior English class (I'm sure several classmates could attest to that). What a great but ruthless teacher! After AHS I graduated from UTA with a bachelor in French and married my husband. I've only used that degree directly for getting dates at UTA, ordering off a French menu, talking to a Quebec operator, and translating a parent's screams at a soccer match. A marginally useful degree. Since then, I've worked in Houston, Iowa, and back in Texas...Expand for more
while pursuing a communications career. Today I have a background in corporate and marketing communications. By the way, my younger sister Brenda also went to AHS as well as my older brother Bruce. They were both dedicated band members (French horn and trumpet respectively) whereas I couldn't play a note, much less march rhythmically with a band. My oldest son Drew, however, upheld the family tradition and played trumpet in the band. And Dalton, my middle son who is also a bit of an actor, skillfully pretended to play violin in the orchestra. Dylan, my youngest, neither plays nor pretends, possessing the musical talent of his mother.
