Barbara currently resides in Pittsburgh, PA.
Barbara Chaffee is a founding Principal and President of Public Intelligence, a strategic marketing and communications firm. Before joining Public Intelligence and Ripple Effects, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge chose Chaffee to help him establish the Office of Homeland Security. As Special Assistant to the President of the United States, Chaffee was Senior Director for Public Liaison, working with the private sector that controls 85 percent of the critical infrastructure in the US as well as international trade and special interest organizations. She also reviewed technologies, products and services for Homeland Security and served on bilateral teams for the Smart Border agreements with Canada and Mexico.
Chaffee served under Governor Ridge as Pennsylvanias Deputy Secretary for the Department of Community and Economic Development, where she managed a $31 million annual budget. Chaffee has 29 years experience in the hospitality industry, where she rose from various line employee positions in Holiday Inn hotels and restaurants to President of Oakdale Management Corporation, a hotel and restaurant management company located in Erie Pennsylvania.
Chaffee was a member of the worldwide Board of Directors of the International Association of Holiday Inn from 1988-1992. During Chaffees tenure, one of the Oakdale Managements hotels won the Holiday Inn Top 20 Hotel Award for two consecutive years with 1,700 hotels competing. Chaffee was recognized as Holiday Inns outstanding Committee Person of the Year for three years.
Chaffees community involvements have included Leadership Erie Alumni Association, First Night Erie, Erie Chamber of Commerce/Tourism Promotion Agency, Erie Rotary and the Riverboat Gaming Commission. Chaffee was raised in Erie, PA. She attended Kent State University, Holiday Inn University and the Vance Creative Thinking Center.
