Dr. Barbara's Story

Life Dr. Lee Barbara Connally is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and still lives and works in the “City of Seven Hills”. She is divorced and has no children. She has been one of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1981 and enjoys a satisfying field ministry in Cincinnati. Barbara (also known as Kujichagulia since 1975, is a Ph.D.- level scientist for more than 23 years in Epidemiology and Risk Communication at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She retired in Feb, 2007. In her professional role at CDC, she has written many notable manuscripts published in medical journals, such as the American Journal of Industrial Medicine, Environmental Health Perspectives, American Journal of Public Health, Chemosphere, etc. Barbara, aka Kuji or Kuku, is enjoying her retirement from that life and has started anew as owner of THE WORD EXPERIENCE, INC., LLC, her consulting company which serves academicians in search of tenure through publishing their expertise in peer-reviewed medical & scientific journals. She has also continued her work as an author of fiction and poetry and to date has published 10 book & is about to complete her 11th. Over the years, Barbara has completed several successful creative projects to her credit as a freelance writer, a public radio broadcaster, and a nightclub chanteuse. Her most notable writing projects include a novel, “"Is There A Panther in the House?" (1998), a collection of short stories, "Tales from Ms. Baby"” (pending publication in 2011), and a collection of prose poetry, "Wrestling With Seduction" (2003). Her other notable books include, for example, a collection of very short poems like little snapshots. The name of that collection is "Snaps", published in 2008; and "The Women We are", just published in 2011. From 1985-2005, Barbara served as Director & CEO of "The STAR Foundation", a respite care organization which served young girls, ages 6-22, from 1st grade through college graduated. STAR Foundation was funded through donations from friends, family & community. Byy 2005, after 20 years of service, the agecy was reduced to a sc...Expand for more
holarship foundation only. However, during STAR's years of operation, it saw 54 girls & 3 boys comlete the program through college graduation. Now those youngsters are mostly married & have children of their own, making Dr. Connally a "grandmother" of more than 100 grandchildren! Barbara's interests in addition to science, teaching and writing, include attending jazz festivals worldwide; foreign travel; attending the NY theater; reading; listening to music (especially jazz and R&B); gourmet cooking; and learning to play the cello. She now lives in the Pendleman/Woodward Square area of Cincinnati, right behind her old Jr. High School, Cutter, later known as the Cincinnati School of Creative & Performing Arts! She is now driving her second Jaguar, an XKR convertible supercharged roadster (400HP) named NOIRE. Barbara (Kuku) has many friends and aquaintances all over the world. She believes that her life so far has been rather enchanted and full of wonderful adventures, and that the best is yet to come. She has no plans to marry again. She says, "I always wanted to be a author when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a very smart cookie idea. As it turns out, they were correct!" To relax & recharge, Barbara listens to music, reads books, and talks with a close friends. She recently purchased a small farm & vineyard in Montalcino, Tuscany (Italy) and lives there part-time! Her world travels have taken her to more than 20 countries & 40 states in the USA. She says, "If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have order and a quiet, space, and clear rules to be able to deal with the day-to-day responsibilies. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the main bathroom and add a bidet. My dream home would be on a sea or ocean view high above the beach. My current age is 65. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely mistaken. My best friend would tell you I'm a silly girl, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as very bright and intellectually driven. I am a very happy camper & I am grateful to Jehovah God & to my family for the life that i now enjoy!
