Barbara's Story

After graduating high school, I attended Fairleigh Dickinson's evening school, Rutherford Campus, majoring in Business Adm. I worked as a Secretary with an asbestos company in E. Rutherford and then with Union Carbide's Plastics Div. in Clifton. I then worked as the Exec. Sec. to the Asst. Treasurer of Becton-Dickinson Corp. in E. Rutherford. I married in 1968 and had 3 children; a girl born in 1970 and twin boys in 1972. I divorced in 1976 and moved to Danville, PA and then on to Harrisburg, PA where I lobbied for the Tenant's Rights Organization attempting to get a Tenant's Rights Bill passed in the State of PA. I remarried in 1980 and divorced in 1983 (infidelity). I then moved to Clearwater, FL where I went to work as a Secretary to the Engineering Dept. at Honeywell Avionics Div. I lived in the Clearwater area for several years. From Honeywell, I worked as an Exec. Sec. to the President of an Insurance Company. I then worked as an Exec. Asst. to Account Execs. at Merrill-Lynch for 2 years (great job). Due to the health of my daughter, I moved to the East Coast of FL, Palm Coast, just above Daytona Beach where I transferred to the Merrill-Lynch's St. Augustine Office where I worked as the Cashier (what a mess this office was). I worked here for about 2 yrs. and took a job closer to home as an Exec. Sec. to the Pres. & CEO of Perma Systems. When this company went bust, I worked as an Exec. Sec. for CEAG Electric. Because companies were coming and going in this area, I eventually moved to Atlanta, GA where I worked as an Exec. Sec. for the President & CEO of Valmet Automation In Norcross, GA, but again the company went bust. I then worked as Exec. Sec. and Office Mgr. of Binswanger Industrial Real Estate Corp., the largest privately held industrial real estate firm in the...Expand for more
nation. I loved my position here, but due to a bad auto accident in 1991 (hit head-on by an uninsured motorist and struck immediately from behind who fled the scene) and had to undergo two neck surgeries, my company had to put me on disability. As a result of this accident I have had to undergo many, many surgeries, some with near death experiences. I have most recently gone throught severe morphine withdrawals due to a mistake my pain mgt. drs. made in reducing my morphine pump down before it died. Believe me when I say, this was a horrible experience. I now live in Cartersville, GA, a community about 45 minutes north of Atlanta on I75. I teach 4 aquatic aerobics classes at our local Senior Aquatic Center. I absolutely love it! The health benefits that I have gotten from these aquatic exercises have been miraculous. I don 't need anymore morphine for my back pain, and my lungs have improved significatly (I almost died in 2009 from Pulmonary Hypertension from the use of the diet med. Phen-fen). My Pulmonary Dr. told me that the pool "literally saved my life." For any of you who are ailing with back pain, arthritis, health problems of any kind, find a therapeutic, heated pool and get in and start exercising. The benefits are nothing short of miraculous. My daughter, Rebecca, lives in Kennesaw, GA and has twins, Meagan and Marshall, who just turned 21 yrs. old. One of my twin boys, Gerald, lives in Holly Springs, GA and has 2 children, Mallory (7) and Joseph (4). My other twin boy, Fred, lives in St. Louis, MO and has 2 children, Ben (17) and Sophia (12). Rebecca and her husband operate a mold remediation business together and are very involved in the barbeque cookoff events as well. Gerald is a Cherokee County Fireman/EMS. Fred is an Area Regional Manager for U-Haul.
