Barbara's Story

Life Hi everyone! Life has been full of surprises and lots of adventure, for me. Over ten years ago, my family and I owned a large remote ranch in southern humboldt, the mountains above Piercy. We logged about a 3rd of the Ranch, through selective thinning and heavy re-planting. I ran the Yarder crew and was the Yarder Engineer. Absolutely crazy dangerous and I loved it. Okay, I admit I am a major adrenaline junkie!! Then the Redwood Run came one June and I met Brian from San Jose. Brian and I are now married, this will be our 13th year. I've been riding street bikes with him now for 12 years. He rides nothing but Harley's but I ride a big Suzuki Intruder LS 1500 all customed out. It's like riding a fast freight train. Anybody else out there ride? I ride alone quite often and I like the dependability of my bike. I would love to find some more women who ride. I also love the wilderness and backpacking. Two of my favorite places are the Lost Coast in the Humboldt/Mendocino. But there is nothing like the Marble mountain wilderness area in my "opinionated opinion." ;) Brian and I will be renewing our wedding vows this summer and then we are going on a motorcycle trip throughout the northwest. We plan to just follow our noses. We're both so excited about this summer, we're like a couple of kids. I have also been a lifetime long hunter and have always been proud of the fact...Expand for more
I never needed more than one bullet on any of my hunts. I shoot only what we will eat. I dress out, skin and process my own kills. Probably just a little bit too macho for my own good. I know many are offended by this but I always felt wild game was far better meat for the family since it is untainted by commercial ranching. I lived on cattle ranches in Northeast Calif. and Oregon and was actually a working cowgirl. I got up every morning, saddled up and went to work. It was a wonderful time in my life and I was so happy that my boys had a few years of this experience as well. My most recent work has involved formulating a new medicine for pain and it is now in a double blind study. In the early 80's I started working in the medical field. This along with my passion for alternative medicine formed the background for my current work. Brian and I have 6 grandchildren we love dearly. I paint for the sheer joy of it and sell a painting now and then. Brian and I live in the Santa Cruz mountains, I'm surrounded by Redwoods........just the way I like to be. There's been a few bumps along the road of our lives and some difficult times. Brian and I are as much in love today as we were when we first met. We still get butterflies when we kiss. Not too bad for an old married couple ;-) Would love to hear from anyone, see what you are doing ...... Hugs and Grins to all, Barb May 2010
