Over 20 years ago, my daughter got us involved in Search and Rescue because I told her we couldn't have a bunch of dogs around the house with no purpose. I had to get involved because the kids were too young to do it on their own. (12 and 14) We are still training search and rescue dogs, for our own use. I'm on my 5th dog. I keep sticking with German Shepherds, but my daughter switched to a Dutch Shepherd...a smaller variety of shepherd. My youngest son got tired of training and got out of it, after about 10 yrs.
We sent people from our group to help with the Oso Mudslide, but I had to work, and my dog has had cadaver training, but hasn't gotten his certification papers, yet.
I plan on retiring this year June 30, 2014. Yay! I've been a 911 dispatcher and dispatch supervisor for 29 years. That's long enough with rotating shifts and alternating days off.
On to the next phase in my life....retirement...gosh, that sounds old. Have a great year, everyone!!
