Barbara's Story
One childhood memory which I'll never forget took place when I first came to this country from Europe in 1961. I barely spoke the language and had no clue what was going on during the first year in Junior High. I was intrigued by the students including their conformism in dress and dating rules. In order to fit in, I tried to learn 'what to do' by reading '17-Magazine' in the library (talk about a recipe for disaster) and absolutely loved the 'american' sense of humor...and still do.
What I wrote here previously, seems so incredibly unimportant now. We all dealt with challenges and it made us who we are today. I wish there were enough time to sit down with each of my classmates, listen to their experiences and learn from them.
I married and divorced young, which resulted in my daughter Susan. I never remarried. Had a lot of crazy and interesting jobs. For almost 30 yrs I am a N.Y. lic. massage therapist, which included stints as 3x president of a massage organizatio...Expand for more
n and lobbying in Albany. It's been quite a ride. I had always wanted to go to college. Well, this is my second year as a part time student at SUNY. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. To my own surprise, I'm having a really great time and I don't think I'll ever want it to stop.
Inside, we still feel as we did as youngsters. However, after having been physically active all my adult life, I was reminded of my true age when I had both hips replaced 3 1/2 yrs ago, and next month (May) I am scheduled to have both knees replaced. As I'm running out of parts, one of my work colleages suggests I should also get a boob job while I'm at it. But I shall decline. After being small chested all my life, I don't want to risk losing my balance, lol.
With the reunion coming up in October, I Iook forward to seeing my classmates again. If I don't recognize you, please just stop me in my tracks and say Hello.
With warm regards to all my colleagues,
Barbara
