Barbara's Story
Life
I am now 37 (getting older but not taller - DARN!)and my life is pretty enjoyable. I was working at a local hospital for 10 years (received Employee of the Year 2003) but in 2004, I changed jobs to a medical group office. Unfortunately, I was only able to work there for about 7 months. My little body was giving out and making it more difficult to function independently. My Godby classmates who knew me well know that independence is very important to me. I had a total left hip replacement in 2002 and I will have to have the right hip replaced at some future date. In order to put off that major surgery as long as possible and to slow down my joint deterioration, I made the difficult decision to stop working. Work had become too much of a physical strain...Expand for more
on me. My mom calls me a lady of leisure now. I keep myself busy but I do miss working (sometimes).
I am not legally married but committed to my life partner, Derek. In December 2007, we will celebrated 15 years together. It is our belief that we don't need a piece of paper stating our commitment. I don't have "human" children of my own, but I get the feeling of having children through my nephews and niece. Also, I have two dogs that are definitely my children. After being a teenager once myself and watching my nephews and niece as young children and eventually teenagers, I prefer to have dogs. My kids are Zippo, a 11 year old mini dachshund (he looks like me - red hair, big brown eyes, short legs), and Solo, a 6 year old Chihuahua. They are my life.
