Barbara M's Story
My JHS graduation was held at Grover Cleveland HS. I thought it was one of the most beautiful schools I had ever seen. I attended Cleveland the following year as a Sophomore from September, 1971 to June, 1972. My dream was to graduate from Cleveland High. That Summer, however, my family made the decision to move to South Florida and so we did in August, 1972. Unfortunately, I didn't graduate from Grover Cleveland HS as I had hoped, however did graduate from a very nice school. My year at Cleveland was wonderful. I made new and special friends and remember some names so I hope to be able to contact them or vice versa. After graduation, I attended a Miami-Dade College and Florida Int'l University. I studied Music at University of Miami and majored later in English Education, Foreign Languages and Theatre. My background is in Theatre & the Arts and was fortunate to have been very involved in performances while I lived in NY, such as talent shows at Wm. Cowper JHS 73 and tried pursuing it later in Miami but it was very competitive and more of a Latin market at the time. I have participated in various events, such as parades and talent competitions; also, since I went to modeling school in NYC while attending 73 and then Cleveland High, I did some free-lancing in Miami. d singing as much as possible at special events, including the cruise lines I worked for and was in a traveling entertainment show during my career at Eastern Airlines. I work in the travel industry and also taught in elementary, middle and high schools for awhile. When I worked for an airline, I traveled to New York as much as possible - during the Summer of 1975 and in 1978 with the idea of moving back. I worked in Long Island City for about 6 weeks and planned on going to NYU, however, decided to return to South Florida. I continued traveling and visiting NYC afterward. I have 2 sisters (one more in NYC while I was in JHS) and my brother was born in Miami while I was in college. My other sister (who moved back to NYC after graduating HS and married there) and I were born in Cuba moved to NYC December 31, 1960. She now lives in Miami. I was married in 1984 and divorced in 1987 - still single, no children however have 3 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 step-nieces & 2 step-nephews. I live in the city of Coral Gables (within the Miami area), close to my parents, siblings and other relatives. Still have some in NYC and other states - most though are living in Florida. I plan on taking additional classes at the university to become certified to teach again and plan on writing at least 1 book.
