Barbara's Story
Life
I loved school as a young child, but by the time I entered FHS, I was one of the lost teens milling through the halls, not feeling a part of the school system. By senior year, I was really lost. I skipped classes and just "hung out". Funny, I was right across the street from the school. I do remember one counselor trying to help, once. The next thing I knew I was expelled. It haunted me. I entered night school, but was sidetracked by a horrible accident my boyfriend was in. His family and I spent months in a hospital getting him back to "normal".
It took many years to realize I was intelligent. I wish the school had taken the time to help so many of us that were in need.
After my divorce, I went to college and received a degree in education. I taught for a few years and then entered the world of sales, while raising 2 wonderful children.
They are adults now both married. I have 5grandchildren, 3 biological and 2 by proxy! Love them all. And in 2007 I was blessed with a great-grandchild, Sofia. See the update below.
My husband and I have our own design/build contracting company. We have been blessed with a constant flow of business in Arizona. A home office has great rewards - working in your pajamas!
I was divorced for 12 years from my high school sweetheart and now happily married for 17 years to a wonderful man who makes marriage a joy.
I have lived in Arizona since 1972. My most recent dwelling is in Cave Creek, Arizona, where my husband and I worked for 9 grueling months to build our dream house with our own hands.
I visit NY as often as I can and recently took my granddaughter, niece and nephew to NY to see the old haunts. Some things never change. Glad to see familiar names on the FHS roster.
Well, as of April 20th, 2007 I have a few new announcements. It was a pretty cold winter here in Arizona, so after January some of the...Expand for more
younguns had news. In March I became a great-grandmother, my son's daughter had a little girl. My daughter is having her second child in Oct. and has a 2 1/2 year old chatterbox little girl. Just like her grandmother (me).
My sister, Chris Bisignano Leto will be a grandmother twice this year by her son and daughter. You know these Italians, they know two things well, food and making babies!
I've also visited Italy for the second time last summer with my niece and nephew. It was wonderful. If I could push California into the Pacific and bring Italy over here I would in a heartbeat.
All this and my construction business is booming. I can't keep up!
Hope 2008 brings health and happiness to all!

School
I had a rough time of it in HS. Not learning, but emotionally. Life at home wasn't all that good, so I didn't really feel good about school. I left my senior year and really regretted it. I wished that the counselors would have taken more of an interest in getting me back on track. I did remember Miss Hirschberger for French and Mr. Rosenfeld for History. Two great teachers. Their mark on me helped me in teaching later on in life.
College
I started college at the community college level at 27 years old, taking Cobol programming and algebra. I realized that I had it in me to continue, even though I never finished high school.
I was lucky enough to take advantage of the grants, loans and scholarships available at the time to single mothers and continued on to ASU. It took seven years of studying and raising two children before I was handed my diploma.
I never regretted that decision. It has helped me tremendously at the least to structure my life and at the most to be able to teach.
I always advise children to follow their dreams no matter what others may tell you and no matter what obstacles may be put in your path. Anything is possible.
