Barbara's Story
It has been over a year now since my boss made me retire (01/31/2011). Unfortunately, since not being prepared at all, it was more of a shock to me. Funny thing was, I began to feel such a huge relief that I did not have to go back there and work again. It was such a stressful job. I was just basically unaware how much stress my body was under.
Depressed, I stayed in bed for at least a month and finally started doing things that had been neglected, like trying to get organized and cleaning house. For the last year I have shredded and recycled hundreds of papers, including bank statements and cancelled checks. It seems like nothing had ever been discarded since starting work (09/18/1985) and soooo many things had never been opened. When my house sold in (04/1999) I threw the $8,000 in my checking account and stopped reconciling.
Knowing what I know now, that was not a wise thing to do. An online credit card company has been takin...Expand for more
g $19.95 out of my checking account since 2003 and the info that has to be given to various authorities to try to get it back makes me want to forget it. (Someone used my account number to get credt in her name and the payment is for insurance or whatever.)
When the Clark family moved to Panola Avenue, it was 1961. We had two more children to make it five, three girls and two boys. After my husband died (07/04/1986) and then my father (12/24/1988),(who had bought and remodeled a house across the street) I moved across the street (09/1990). Who would not want to have central air/heat instead of a swamp cooler and floor furnace? I was thrilled that I could finally get a stacking washer and dryer. (Yay, No more washaterias!!!)
It is so scary how much I have been isolating. I have quit going and doing. Just the grocery store every other week. Eventually, when my house is in better order, I hope to do many things if it's not too late.
