Barbara's Story
Life
I have been married to my husband for 27 years, and have two stepkids. My stepdaughter has three boys and my stepson has two girls. My family is the focus of my life, and my grandchildren keep me busy and active. I have been a professional bookkeeper since 1987. My main hobbies are singing in the church choir and scrapbooking. We also keep busy with the pipe band that my husband is currently the pipe major of. I know, I know... a German girl and a Piper! It works, though! In addition to my kids and grandkids, I visit my Mom in long term care every week. My husband and I are also historical re-enactors of the Revolutionary War (18th Century), and have done that ever since I've known him (1987). It was a great family hobby as the kids were growing up. husband calls it "camping with a theme"! It's fun, although I miss nice, light modern camping gear at times! Having a 12 ft. two-by-four as a ridgepole can be a challenge! Of course, it is because of this hobby that we have an interest in antiques. We also belong to a cat club that puts on a cat show in Ancaster every year in March, and we used to have five Maine Coon cats. We showed them and they won many ribbons and awards before they retired. Maine Coons are a large breed of cat known as the "gentle giants of the cat world". I say that they're the closest thing you can get in a cat to a dog. We lead a busy and fulfilling life, and although we're not the wealthiest people money-wise, we're rich in family and friends, and we keep buying those lottery tickets!!
