Barbara's Story
If anyone remembers our Senior Class Homecoming Float themed "Follow the Yellow Brick Road", the construction on the float had been started in my parents garage until it got so big, it needed to be moved to a plane hangar at Perry Airport. I played the Tin Man. What a great time. If anyone would happen to have a pictures, it would be appreciated if you could share.
After graduation, I worked the summer for a florist around the corner from the house. Gee, how time can cloud the mind, I can't remember the name of the shop. That following fall, I enrolled in a Medical Laboratory Technology Technician course at MDCC. I never pursued a career because I met the love of my life, Steve Evan, just before graduation. He was in the Coast Guard and 8 yrs older than me. Not a bad thing to marry older, I always stay young. We left 2 weeks after the wedding, to head to our new assignment on Governor's Island, New York. While there, we had our first child, Elizabeth in May '79. We were on the road again when she was 2 weeks old, see a pattern here, to report to our new assignment in Yorktown, VA. While there, we had our oldest son, Stephen in Sept '81. Once again, 7 months later, new assignment back to Miami Beach. We bought a home in Hollywood and lived there from '82 to '06. We had our last child, Christofer in Jan '85. I was a stay at home Mom, thanks to the hubby's job. He retired in '89 and I went to work. I worked for Southeast Frozen Foods in North Miami Beach for 10 yrs and Total Appliance in Hallandale for 7 yrs.
We sold our home in '06 and purchased a RV. We have been traveling this great country since then. We have visited 28 states and still have plenty yet to see and do.
