Barbara's Story
WOW! Where has all the time gone and how did it slip by so quickly? I don't care what the clock has to say...I'm holding at 29!
I have three fantastic grown children.....25, 21, and 18. For the most part, the roads we have traveled have been well off the beaten path but we always took the time to enjoy the view and smell the roses. The memories (good and bad) are heartwarming, always bring a smile and usually a good laugh. No grandchildren yet......I have contracts, I'm not ready so they're not allowed.
My oldest will be graduating from Army Basic Training as a PFC in Fort Sill, OK this week so I'm headed out to where the buffalo roam. I am especially proud of him for waiting to make this choice in his life. My personal beliefs are that 18 yr olds are not mature enough to make military choices.
My 21 yr old is in the Laborer's Union in Phila and working towards the Operator's Uni...Expand for more
on. He promises me that his break from school is short lived and he will continue working on his degree.
My 18 yr old babygirl just graduated from high school in May 2008. She completed her final needed credit to graduate during the first semester and moved to Phila to start an excellerated core class at Phila Community College last January. She came home in May to graduate with her class with her first college credit already under her belt. She will be a full time college freshman student as of September '08.
We have lived up and down the East Coast to include Fort Devens, MA (birthplace of 21 yr old); Fort Stewart, GA; Philadelphia, PA (birthplace of 18 yr old); and full circle back home to Columbus where the 25 yr old was born.
I'm finding retirement from raising children to be very interesting. No empty nest syndrome here! I'm still thinking about learning how to scuba dive.
