Barbara's Story

UPDATE May 15th, 2019 I left California in the fall of 1965, spent almost a year in Bavaria, then came back to Paris for ten days and spent ten years. Got my degree first in French Lit., then in English Lit. and became a tenured secondary teacher in English and French here in Burgundy in 1975. while living along the Loire River near the Sancerre (Sauvignon) vineyards. After returning to the US for the first time on a sabbatical leave in 1996, I passed the CBEST and other test qualifying me for a CA teaching credential and substituted for five years from 1996 to 2002 after which I returned to teaching here near the Chablis (Chardonnay) vineyards. Our son, who accompanied me in 1996, stayed in Santa Rosa and founded a family there so I have a twelve year granddaughter Sophia who is one third French, one third Filipina and one third American. Our daughter lives in the north of France where she shares her time between working as a Vet assistant in a clinic specialized in treating cancer and raising and training jumping hor...Expand for more
ses with her companion and former coach. I currently share a cottage dating back to 1840, situated on the edge of the forest with my daughter’s retired hors, three cats and a flock of marvelous (free-running) chickens. Though "officially" retired since 2006, I have continued to teach and spend my free time reading, gardening and writing -- you will find some 35 articles (in English) on the Internet site bonjourparis.com barbara-becquiot , but I'm also working on a book about local culture. Only an hour and a half southeast of Paris by train and an hour west of Dijon, I’m participating in Agathe Simon’s cultural activities in Paris. Agathe is a professor at the University of Paris and the artistic director for the experimental art performance project Le Group.. (To get an idea just google "Le Group...est une compagnie de création...") and click on the English. If you’re planning a trip to Paris or in and around Burgundy once the COVID crisis past, drop us a line and let’s try and touch bases? Warmest greetings, Barbara

Thank you, Bill Furney, for helping us grasp why Washington is having to send generators to heat Texas.
If I'm missing being more in nature with 20°C out today, I have absolutely no regrets. I find myself right now with the most remarkable students I've ever had and every moment spent with them is a gift.

Question just asked on Quora: Why did a protestor have a French flag during the storming of the Capitol?

My answer: Most probably because they w
Happiness of life in a country village.
When a butterfly comes in through the open window and pauses a moment on the garden flowers in a vase on the kitchen table, these are moments when you grasp just how lucky you really are.
After 105°F today, storm coming, but doesn't seem to worry either cats or chickens. Will however when the wind starts to pick up.
Screams coming from the chickens. Chickens don't scream? When you've lived around our feathered friends for awhile, you know how to interpret their language. And this morning, the chickens were screaming..

Mother's Day here in France, so what more normal than to discover our Maran hen choosing today of all days to begin sitting on a dozen eggs. Happy future event in three weeks.
July the month of sunflowers and this year they're everywhere and spreading for miles. Life in Van Gogh land.
102°F forecast for next week. I frankly think that Bibi will be moving into the shade.
