Barbara's Story

Life I attended James Giles/John Leigh from 1st through 8th grade. After my family moved during my freshman year at Ridgewood, we moved temporarily to my grandmother's house in Brookfield and I completed my freshman year at Riverside-Brookfield. Our house was completed by summer in Des Plaines. I completed my high school career, sophomore-senior, at Forest View High School, Arlington Heights. Two days after graduation, I began working for United Air Lines in their executive offices. I was set up on a blind date by my mother-in-law-to-be in October, 1967 & was married to Tony Rohrs on November 1, 1968 & moved to Elgin. I quit working for United in July 1971, moved to Rockford & our first child was born, Christopher Jay, in August 1971; then February 1973, Kate Suzanne arrived; we moved to Belvidere & in April, 1975, Kacey Elizabeth rounded out the family. 984, my husband was sudddenly transferred to California and we took up residence in Sacramento. We loved it and turned down four positions in the next couple of years that would have moved us back to the Midwest. I had various part-time positions as the kids grew up and my 16-year job as a full-time for an administrative office for all the Presbyterian churches in northern & central California & the whole state of Nevada dissolved the end of 2010.So I sort of retired. My husband of 43 years died suddenly February 1, 2011. Now I am trying to find what my new "normal" will be without my best friend. My children have children so I am the proud grandparents of 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. I love to read, travel, scrapbook, cross-stitch and be with my children & grandchildren. I hope any of my old classmates and I remember multitudes of you do not hesitate to get a hold of me. I would love hearing from you!
