Barbara's Story
I have worked at Mercer University in Macon, GA for the past 22 years. I am now assistant director of Career Services. I am on the adjunct faculty of both Mercer and Macon State College, where I teach public speaking. My undergrad degree in communication is from Mercer, and I have graduate degrees from both Georgia College and University of Georgia. I'm finishing another through Spring Arbor University.
I have two sons. Phillip is 30 and an electrical engineer. He and his wife Tammy just celebrated their second anniversary. Matt is 27 and works with a landscaping company. He's not married, but has a very nice significant other. Both live nearby. No grandchildren. I've been divorced since 1982.
I was voted the "Madonna" (caregiver type, not rock star) in Mrs. Pendergrass' home ec class. I was the one who sewed other girls' aprons and skirts and...Expand for more

The "wildest thing" I did in school was write a petition in our senior year to let Mrs. Hull know that our class wanted two girls who were pregnant to graduate with our class.
My Dad is my hero. He was a kind, gentle, wise man who made lots of difference in my life and in the lives of my sons. He passed away in 1992 and my mother passed away in 2007 at the age of 90.
If I could improve my home, I'd landscape my yard and add on a big porch. My dream home would be self-cleaning ;0).
My first job was at 1st Nat'l Bank, where I got paid very little to be a secretary. 1st Nat'l hired about a dozen of us straight from McEvoy. I stayed 14 years. What I remember most about it is that we had fun while we got important work done.
My kids taught me that God has a very good senee of humor - and that I need one, too.
