Barbara's Story
Life
Hoping to reconnect with old friends and memories; to wish those people well in their lives.
Graduated from Douglass in '75; lived in NYC and worked at Mt. Sinai; thought I was going to be a medical sociologist. Went to law school til '79 and worked in NYC as an investigator for the NYS Dept. of Professional Discipline. Worked '80-'82 as a Hudson Cty Prosecutor. Worked '82-'88 for Port Authority as a litigator. Worked in private firm '88-'94. Working from '94 to present as arbitrator and mediator in private practice.
Very active in field of alternative and complementary dispute resolution (ADR and CDR) - master and executive committee member for Justice Garibaldi Inn of Court for ADR; chair elect of State Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section. Lecture at conferences.
Have done volunteer work for Cedar Grove (Health Advisory Council), for the Family School Association (School Community University), and for the NJ Supreme Court by appointments to the Committee on Character (about 7 years) and now the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee (preceded by work on the Bar's Unlawful Practice of Law...Expand for more
Committee through chairship).
Married Hoboken guy - James Caporrino- in '91. He has a law practice in Fort Lee and Verona, after a few other careers. Separated.
Daughter Alea was born in '94. Bright, generous of spirit, funny...but ten and defiant.
Started with fish, then moved to furry live things - mice. Now we have Leo (the dingo) and Max (I call him Sid) and Sam, the cats. Recently a hamster named BoBo (I call her BooBoo) was added. Have 4 year old goldfish (Schvimmer) and average one beta a year.
Still in touch with Robin (Turkel), Marina (Alexander) and Rick (Freizer) for those from Bayonne.
Have homes in Cedar Grove and Brick.
Enough of me! Looking forward to contacts!
College
Went to Douglass; kept sending for a Rutgers application, but the school kept replying with Douglass applications until they finally sent a letter to me - "we don't take women yet".
Majored in Speech Pathology/Audiology and Sociology. Dropped the former in my last semester.
Took off a year, worked a year at Mount Sinai (thought I would be a medical sociologist) and then went to Seton Hall Law School.
