Barbara's Story
Life
My life is different from what I imagined it would be when I was a young girl in Georgia. For 26 years I lived in SE Kansas where I reared 5 incredible sons. I developed,as a staff member of the University of Kansas, a successful training and service program for early childhood professionals. I was involved on several state level advisory boards and enjoyed 11 years of teaching as an adjunct faculty member at Labette Communinty College. I taught both on campus and online. I was appointed to a national task force by the National Association of Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) to develop an emerging leaders program for the field. I made a major cross country move to relocate in the Metro DC area where I became a staff memeber at NACCRRA and developed the Leaders program, among other things.
I left after 18 months when offered a position with Bright Horizons Family Soultions. I am still in Northern Virginia and loving my new postion with this fantastic company. I am also in the beginning stages of devloping my own consulting firm.
I Still have one son living at home and I would love to hear from former friends. My hobbies include writing, reading and nature walks. Some things never change!
School
I think the teacher that inspired me most was Ms. Ella Carter. She was awesome. She helped develop in me a love of fine literature, an understanding of literary technique and a continuing love of the rhythm of language. Her insistance on the best from her students was a lesson I have carried into all aspects of my life and work. Thank you..Ms Carter! I'd love to see you again.
My biggest crush in High school was ...Expand for more
my High School sweetheart, Steve Waldorf..I wish you well Steve, wherever you are now.
In grade school I was too scared of the boys to have a serious crush!
College
I spent two years at MAcon Jr. College and really have few excellent memories there...a few tennis dates (Hi Hunter) and feeding the ducks at lake knee-deep are about it. I transfered to Asbury College in Kentucky and spent two wonderful years there, studying, making friends and enjoying life. I laughed cried, fell in love, fell out of love and did it all over again! I loved my college years and would gladly do them again.
Workplace
I taught grade school for a couple of years then started having babies. I worked part time tutoring and substitute teaching when the kids were little. In 1992 I joined Kansas University to develop a program for which grant funds had been awarded. I administered the program and expanded services from a one county area to an eight county area before leaving 13 years later. I also served as adjunct faculty at the local community college teaching early childhood care and development classes for 11 years.
Now I have relocated to the Metro DC area where I accepted a position as a Regional Support Services manager for The National Asscociation of Child Care Resource an Referral Agencies, (NACCRRA). I provide technnical assistance to Child Care Resource and Referral Networks and local agencies in Region 5 (Georgia, North and South Carolina and Florida) and Region 1, (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachussets, Connecticut and Rhode Island).
Spring 2007... Joined Bright Horizons Family Soultions as Back-up Center Director.
