Barbara's Story
Life
My Pets
I still have a zoo of animals. I think I was the only person at Okeef Middle School to ever bring chickens to school and destirb the entire school with them crowing all day. LOL We now have 2 dogs 2 cats and 13 Doves, 7 quail and 8 chickens. Will have goats when I get moved into our new home In Alabama.
We started the home in 2003 but had trouble with our builder he took the money and left town. Haven't found him yet to get it back, so I can finish the house. This spring however I am building it my self anyone wanting to help is welcome. I am building a Straw Bale home that is Eco friendly and Latex Free.
My Kids
I have a great son named Seneca age 24 and a daughter named Moriah age 17 who are the light of my life.
Right now I am living with my Son. He takes care of me since I am disabled due to a sever Latex Allergy. My daughter has it as well and is home bound. The public school system here won't let her in any more due to her allergy. So since we are home all the time we help my mom's writing of children's books and put them on CD's for children that are dyslexic or blind. As you can probably tell from my spelling I also have dyslexia. We hope to reach and help a lot of children with our books. My mom has written over 40 books so far. We have only gotten 2 published at this time.
After Northside I moved to Lithia Springs where I now live....Expand for more
I became a Clown for about 6 years where I visited children in the hospital at three different hospitals weekly and did birthday parties etc. Then I became a nurse for about 9 years till a patient broke my neck which is why I was wearing a neck brace at our 10 year class reunion. I have worked teaching as a substitute teacher and parapro for a few years after that and I worked for Girl Scouts for 7 years. I helped get the After School Program Girl Scout troops started in Boys and Girls clubs and in schools around Douglasville, Mabelton and Smyrna, GA. I was told that I would have maybe 10 girls in a troop, but when they were told I would be the leader I had 40 girls on my first day. Most of the children in the Elementary school I worked at knew me as the Crazy lady that came in to tell stories. I wore a lot of costumes to the school so everyone knew me. I managed to keep all 40 girls give or take a few from the ones I started up with, and added 20-30 more over the 7 years I was there. I taught primitive camping, canoeing. and out door cooking and crafts. I also worked at camp as the camp nurse.
So you can see I have kept my self busy. I have only give in to this allergy in the last 3 years and have had to change my life completely to survive and to keep my daughter alive.
I look forward to seeing all of you at our next reunion as long as there are no baloons.
