Barbara's Story
Hi All, I live in a small town in south central Connecticut with my husband Jack. We came here via Washington State (8 years just outside of Seattle) and San Francisco and Marin County, CA (13 years) where our two sons were born. Ryan is 24 and Daniel is 22. Ryan has started an Internet business for Gen Yers (millenials - many of our kids) and hired Dan when he graduated college in June as his 8th employee! They live in Madison, WI and Jack and I will visit over Labor day.
I went back to school to complete my master's in the mid 90's in Seattle and ran a large non-profit that helped at risk kids in their school sites. I started it up in Wa. by putting together the Board of senior executives from companies like Boeing and Costco, along with all of the school superintendents and various agencies.
I left that and began consulting (organization development) and worked for a small company in New Haven before my present job. I work for a regional bank - People's United and lead their Learning and Development which means I do the corporate wide management and leadership development, succession planning with the executives, executive coaching and am in charge of performance mgmt for the org. also lead culture, change and OD for the Bank that is in an acquiring mode. We recently acquired 6 banks in Northern NEngland and I travel those banks _ Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Mass. often.
HOW THE HECK DID I END UP IN CT AND AT A BANK? I ask myself this quite often and I also have a great life so I have to laugh about it.
Anyway, my lifeline is my family - my true success story. We are all very, very close. I lalso ove the outdoors and physical activity (here in CT that often means working out indoors - I like aerobics, wt training and yoga, etc.). I love to travel and plan to visit my niece in New Zealand next year for Jack's 60th birthday and the next year visit a close friend's daughter who is in the Peace Corp in Peru.
I still love to socialize and have many good friends all over the country.
I speak at many conferences and associations and enjoy it. I also love the coaching part of my job and do this on the side as well.
I miss my animals, my dog died and than my cat - and then my boys left so we have a lot of freedom but I will probably be adopting some animals in the near future.
Enough for now. Can't wait to see whoever I can at the reunion. I STILL MISS THE SOUTH!!!
