Barbara's Story
Life
After graduating and going to MCCC, I worked at Bethlehem Steel for 3 years. I quit and moved west to AZ (the only other place that I knew anyone). The company I worked for for a year moved to Philadelphia and I was not going with them! I got a contracting job in San Francisco at Bank of America and then worked at Wells Fargo for 3 years. When housing became too expensive in CA, I moved back to AZ, bought a house and worked at a bank here. I met my husband who was divorced with 2 chidren, a girl Sunshine 5 and boy Dylan 4. We built a house in Mesa, AZ and travelled halfway to Tucson (where the kids lived with their mom) every weekend for 13 years to share their lives. Believe it or not, I met Jim here in Phoenix and he grew up in Norristown! So we married in Bridgeport, PA so both of our families could participate in the fun! After 7 years at the bank in AZ, I got a job with Motorola. I worked there in the IT department for 19 1/2 years before being laid off. Unfortunately it was in the middle of my Chemo therapy for Ovarian Cancer. I recovered and remodeled the home we had built and got a job as a credit uni...Expand for more
on teller to get my foot in the door of their IT department. When they hired outside the company, I quit that and started building our new home we have been living in since August of 2005. It is the featured home for December of 2006 in my husband's company calendar. I am now building the swimming pool, a must have in AZ. I am also recovering from a broken ankle (walking around the pool in progress) and Breast Cancer. We now get to make that same drive halfway to Tucson to pick up our 2 grandchildren, a girl Destinee and boy Jalen. I've had a wonderful exciting life so far!

Now divorced 11 years I still have the step kids and 4 grands. The oldest is a step step grand who has just had my second great grand. I retired in 2015 and now spend on average 7 hours a week volunteering with my 14 year old Vizsla, Kami. Soon, I will be certifying her brother, Boz, a silky terrier, to take her place when she can no longer do the 2 hours of walking. I also have been doing other projects for my older friends sewing and making shade screens for their homes (doing my part to save energy!).
