Barbara's Story
Life
I really enjoyed my college years, lived on campus (no choice back then), and participated in a sorority.
College can really change a person's life. After graduating from E.T.S.U., I taught English in Sullivan County Schools for 30 years. For twenty years I absolutely loved my job, but the last ten were a bit hard. The whole world had changed.
I retired in 1998, and now I am living the good life. My husband still works, so we don't travel as much as we would like. I spent a great deal of time as a community advocate, working on downtown re-vitalization (in Bristol); serving on the Library Board and the local arts council; and working with the local music festival, the Rhythm and Roots Reunion Music Festival.
Recently, after being over-committed for a few years, I have limited my volunteer time to the arts organization. We are in our third year of a very successful public art project and plan a visual arts competition for regional high school stud...Expand for more
ents next spring. It is and has been a pleasure to be part of groups that work to make Bristol an even better place to live.
I have been able to travel a great deal in my adult life, and I look forward to more. I have no children, but my six nephews and two nieces are very close to me. (This way, I don't pay any college tuition or have to make unpopular decisions!) All in all, my life right now is really great. I would enjoy hearing from old friends from all of the schools I have attended and in which I taught.
I am now a widow and have been through a lot of changes since late 2014. Last fall (2016), I moved into a new condo and love the location. I am still getting settled in after six months, but I am pacing myself on that. I am definitely ready for a new chapter of my life. The future could be interesting. I look forward to hearing from and seeing high-school and college friends in person or online at Classmates or Facebook. -Barbara Bullock Niemczak
