Barbara's Story
8/12/16
Born and raised in Allentown, PA, graduated from William Allen in '73. Now living in Erie, PA (since '84). One sister, Karen, who lives in Richmond, VA.
I love most music, especially classic rock and 80's rock. Yes, I do karaoke ... and yes, I CAN sing! Really, I'll listen to pretty much anything but country (sorry!). I'm (still) an avid reader (right now, I'm reading "77 Shadow Street" by Dean Koontz.). I'm a movie freak ("Shawshank" rules!) and a Stark Trek geek.
I work for a law firm as a real estate paralegal, which I've been doing since '76. I actually love my job and, when it comes to bosses, I hit the lottery.
I'm on the Board of Trustees for the Titanic International Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the research of ocean liners, with our focus on Titanic. I'm the editor of its quarterly journal, Voyage, and have been doing that since '98. I got involved in '97 when we discovered that there were 19 letters from my then-husband's great aunt and great grandmother that were recovered from a travel trunk in Titanic's debris field. It's a long and fascinating story that still gives me chills every time I tell it and, sooner or later, I WILL get the book publi...Expand for more
shed! Anyhow, as a result, we got involved with the history of the ship and the people onboard and, before you know it, I was hooked!
I've been with my guy, John, for 16 years and couldn't be happier. Although I never had any kids, I have an awesome stepson (who I couldn't love any more if I had given birth to him), a crazy, beautiful daughter-in-law and four amazingly perfect grandsons, all 3 and under, they've given us! I can't imagine my life without any of them!
I try to get home to Allentown once a year or so. Hell, it's the only time I can get a decent cheese steak! Trust me, once you get west of State College, a Philly cheese steak is NOT a Philly cheese steak! Last time I got home (just a few months ago in May), I had lunch with Mrs. Mory (10th grade English). It was way too weird trying to call her Jackie! But we had a fantastic time reminiscing and catching up on our lives. I can't wait to do it again!
My two favorite sayings are, "If it's too loud, you're too old!" and "There is no spoon."
My mind still thinks I'm in my 20's or 30's. Sad that my body doesn't agree!
That's it for now. The arthritis in my thumbs is threatening dire consequences if I continue typing!
