Barbara's Story
I was raised in the military having traveled to numerous states and Germany then ended up in Wichita Falls, TX, graduating from high school in 1962. I've been married to Dr. Richard Eckert since 1964 and we have two sons, Steve and Brad. Steve resides and works in Dallas and Brad and his dog, Blue, live in Dallas. Brad has been happy working with the same company, MUFG Capital Analytics, for the past several years.. We have no grandchildren to boast of but we are animal lovers and I have been an animal volunteer for several years.
We've had 3 dogs, Hank, Scooter and Odie, Hank crossed the Rainbow Bridge at age 17, Scooter crossed over the 1st day the electric grid went down in 2021, and Odie crossed over at age 17 in March, 2023. I volunteer with our local animal shelters as well as assisting with the transporting of dogs to their foster & forever homes across the US.
After working my spouse's way through college and graduate school. work out 3x/week with weights and swimming. Hey, we're old but we don't need to LOOK & feel old, right?
In my spare time I love to read, volunteer, & swim.! l. Ed and I love road trips, we completed a road trip traveling to Canada, the Pacific NW and 11 national parks before Covid hit. I'm a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and sometimes we head up north to visit my sister and family as well as cousins.
My hero is my husband, Ed. He's always there when I need counseling and is very good at making me laugh! Some of my heroes are the late and great Barbara Jordan, first Black woman to serve in the US Senate, Ann Richards, Gloria Steinam, Cory Booker, John Lewis, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor & others who continue to fight for equality and freedom!
I've learned Patience and understanding from my kids.
I lived in the dorm after graduating high school when my parents separated. I (pledged Gamma Phi Beta Sorority (and had far too much fun)!
I'm saddened to hear of many old friends and acquaintances who have passed away.-most recently our long time dear friends, Jane Strother Majewski, Eddie Majewski and Johnny Gilleland...God bless my great classmates of 1962!
