Barbara's Story
Life
I live in Cincinnati, a city our family loves. Having retired in 2004 after a 29-year career with Procter & Gamble, I am active in our church (Hyde Park Community UMC), and in a number of community organizations. My husband, John, and I have been married 28 years, and we have two great sons. Our older son graduated (cum laude -- aren't I the proud mom!) in May 2006 from Columbus College of Art & Design (just 100 miles from home). He's working at a friend's poster and frame warehouse (didn't need that Illustration BFA to do that!), and is engaged, but without a date or location firmly set (proof that God has a perverted sense of humor, that a math major and an engineer would get a visual artist with NO left brain!) Our younger son is a freshman at Michigan State, working on a dual degree/dual major in bass performance and mechanical engineering ... thank goodness for their Honors College, to help him navigate that double major! We purchased a condo in a golf/ski resort in northern Michigan about 10 years ago, and the boys and John learned to ski or snowboard -- I settle...Expand for more
d for trying to learn golf in my early 40's (my goal right now is to shoot my age on 9 holes!). In 2003 I took up running (ridiculous what staring 50 in the face did to me!), and have run 2 full and numerous half marathons with Team in Training. John and I are both seasonal tax preparers for H&R Block ... we learn a lot, and don't "do taxes" nights or weekends. In our spare time, we're both on one or two community boards. I've had a great time serving as president of our school's Music Boosters during Brad's sophomore & junior years. Last year I took on the task of chairing a project to raise funds to refurbish the concert grand piano at our HS ... C.F. Payne (think back page of Reader's Digest the last 4 years) created a poster for us and we held a huge gala in early April (on my 28th wedding anniversary!). Our total raised is at $18000 and climbing with continuing sales :). I retired from (most) school volunteer work when Brad graduated, and am trying to get the house in order before taking on any new volunteer work :) Retirement is WONDERFUL.... I highly recommend it :)
