Barbara's Story
I married Ron Crager in 1967 and pulled a Scarlet O'Hara on the way out of Leesville, shouting "As the Lord is my witness I will never come back." We had two beautiful girls and divorced in 1981. I continued on in Shreveport and was dignosed with a rare form of Lupus in 1984. Met and married Ronnie Dismukes that same year and we were married until 1991. That same year I was dignosed with breast cancer. That is a real eye-opener. I remained single and that was fine with me. I had told the Lord I would never marry again unless he sent me a letter telling me otherwise and it had to be signed by a notary. I got a call from the past in 1994 from all people, James Packer, some of you may remember he was the only guy I dated all through high school. I figured that was as close as the Lord was going to get to that letter. We married in 1995. We settled in Sabine Parish on Lake Toledo ...Expand for more
and that was about as close to Vernon as I wanted to get. Well who had to eat those words from so long ago. You got it ME. I now live about 2 miles from where I was raised two miles outside the Fort Polk North Gate. Never say Never it will come back to haunt you everytime. I have really enjoyed reconnecting with a lot of old friends and guess I will grow old here. Between Jim and I we have 7 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. In 1997the Lord called one of mine Little Tyler home he was 20 months old. The hardest thing I have ever had to face. I miss him but it makes heaven even that much sweeter to look forward too.
We like to travel in our travel trailer and go a lot with Johnny and Jane(Nickerson) Beltz and Linda and Johnny Clever. That is about as frisky as you can get at 60.
