Barbara's Story
In 1969 within a week after graduation I left DuBois for just about anywhere. First stop was a school in Connecticut for airline personnel. What an experience that was! I came home for a visit and when we were returning to school there were riots going on in Hartford. What a surprise and education that was. Scarey time. We were chased down the street by a mob with burning tourches, past a burning, upsode down Volkeswagon bus! Welcome back. Guess I'm not in DuBois any more Toto. LOL and so it began.
After graduating I got a job in NYC for Continental Trailways Bus Company. So there I was a little girl of 19 working on 42nd St & 8th Avenue in Manhattan. I learned to ride the subways and eventually not to look people in the eye. I also made some wonderful friends that exist to this day. (When they bommed the Trade Center I was distrught. It was days till I learned my friends were ok. ) Boy did I have some experiences there. And I was really homesick and missed all my friends from home for a long time.
I loved the culture and the diversity the city offered as well as the people. I le...Expand for more
arned just how loving and good so many of them are there. Lots and lots of stories.....
I met my ex husband and got married in 1975. It was a very romantic time of my life. He was a NYC police officer and very impressive. If only I had a crystal ball. He was that way in his home too. Bossy and know it all.....And the marriage failed. But not until we had 2 wonderful children. 1 boy Tony and 1 girl Kristi. They are my best accomplishment and the most fulfilling part of my life. I was blessed to be a stay at home mom and loved it.
In wow, I think it was 1997 that I finally left my husband and moved back to DuBois with my daughter. It is quiet here. LOL It has taken me some time to adjust to being back here. I am working at The Talking Phone Book which takes up most of my time these days. the time I have left is spent with mu cute little dog Chase! I'm not sure he isn't slightly retarded. But I love him. My daughter is living in Downingtown PA and my son is in New Paltz NY.
I hope you all went on to great things and are happy. I look forward to talking with you.
