Barbara's Story

Life Well, as the saying goes "You've come a long way, baby"...My journey has taken me from the south side of Chicago, working in the loop as an Exec. Secretary, to marriage, and moving to Alsip, Il. having 2 sons there and then shortly thereafter, moving to Theodosia, Mo. There my life changed dramatically and I went into "culture shock" living in the Ozark Mountains near a resort, population about 650 people. I was a stay-at-home mom there (thank God, there wasn't much work there any way) -- but did help my then husband in his packing house, meat delivery business. I had another child - this time a girl - then, in 1977 we moved to Mountain Home, AR. We owned a butcher shop -- after a fire in the store (1979) we moved out of town (4 miles actually) and did some mini-farming (chickens, ducks, even a pig) and raised our own veggies. Then, had 4th child, another girl. We lived there for 4 years -- learning all ab...Expand for more
out "living off the land". Then, an opportunity came for us to move to the Little Rock, AR. area -- and we took it -- and in 1983 we moved here. The opportunity was to own a Subway Sandwich Shop. This turned out to be great -- as we became the Development Agents for this state and No. Louisiana and are still excited about this business. Our 2 sons work in the business with my ex and I and we thoroughly enjoy this area, the people, the climate, all the beauty that Arkansas has. You all come down, now, ya hear???? Well, As they say, that's not the end of the story. Five years ago I met a man, and we started corresponding, and not quite 4 years ago, we moved Hot Springs Village, Ar and were married. What a beautiful area -- we live on Lake Balboa here in the Village. I'm still not retired, nor is he (he is a structural engineer and works from home) and I go into work 1 or 2 days a week. WHAT A LIFE.
