Bari's Story
After high school:
Went to Hancock as art major; ended up as music major. Began teaching piano lessons - and did so for 15 years. I quit the piano teaching when we left Lompoc in 1981 to return to art, my first love.
Married in 1967. Had two kids.
Began painting store window ads, "splash" art and wall murals in 1976. Husband got job with the Feds. Moved around a lot - left Lompoc in 1981 for Texas, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Oregon, and 2 assignments in Washington state (I'm still here).
Kept up the art business through all the moves. Strangely enough, each move brought better and better opportunities in my field.
I took tap dancing for 2 years while living in Seattle, and actually performed once. Oh yes, it was hilarious. And fun!!!
My husband of 36 years (Pete Graves) died in 2003. In 2004 I married the widower next door (Frank Federspiel), a retired geologist. ...Expand for more
Quit the window painting business after 28 years and began painting watercolors, a lifelong ambition.
I belong to and actively participate in the local Watercolor Society, United Blind, and Mensa. I also belong to the Astronomical Unit of Santa Barbara (I visit that area frequently as I still have family in Lompoc) .
I still have my mom in Lompoc. Dad passed away in August of 2014, 4 days before his 92nd birthday. My kids are married and each has two children - the grandchildren are my joy and my legacy.
I have two dachshunds, Gus and Cinnamon Buns.
Sometimes life is hard. Usually life is what one makes it, how one deals with adversity. With my Christian faith, my wonderful husband, family members and friends as a support group, I am able to wake up every morning and say "Life is good. I have more blessings than I deserve!" How can a 67 year old be so happy?
