Barry's Story
I'm Barry Boerner, with my short story to share. After graduating in 1963, I went on to the University of Florida and got a BS & PhD in Chemistry. I had a Post Doc with Herb Laitinen for a bit, and then went to work for the Florida Department of Agriculture in 1977 in what was then the Diviion of Chemistry, in the Chemical Residue Lab. I was instrumental in getting the first GC/MS for that lab, and enjoyed working there very much. I got up to Assistant Bureau Chief, and then moved on to the DIvision level and switch over to IT at that time. I've been there ever since,and will be retiring August 2012 after 35 years. I met my wife, Gaylia, while at UF. She saved a seat for me at the BSU so we could watch Star Trek together after I washed my clothes on Fridays. We had our first ...Expand for more
son & daughter while we were still at UF, and our youngest son was born shortly after we moved to Tallahassee. Ben, our oldest, currently lives in Slidell, LA and works for AT&T, and survived Katrina. Susan is staying with us, and now that she has her MS in Biological Science (research involved with gene expression) she will be moving on. Our youngest, Tim, is currently working at UI in Champagign Urbana with the supercomputer network there. His SO is working on her doctorate in Library Science. Ben's son, Owen, is our oldest grandchild, and Susan's Darius will be three this May 23rd, and she is working on our third grandson, due July 2nd, so we will be outnumbered by grandchildren. I had to have 5 bypasses in 2005, and have been doing ok since then. May you live long & prosper!
